Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation?has a requirement to?fill a Risk Management Senior Specialist?position within their Project Development and Implementation (PDI) group. The PDI group has a Project Delivery Hub located in?Salt Lake City, UT?USA. ? Technology and Innovation's (T&I) mandate is to increase the contribution of technology to Rio Tinto's vision of industry leadership. Project Development & Implementation (PDI), as part of T&I, provides support and project delivery services across the global Rio Tinto group. ? The?Risk Management Senior Specialist?will need to support and implement the policies and practices of the Rio Tinto Group in respect of environment, safety, compliance, cultural awareness, business integrity and other matters of corporate significance.? ? As Management is committed to managing all risks in a proactive and effective manner, risk identification, risk assessment and risk management is applied to all facets of the business including major projects in order to successfully meet the business objectives. The Risk Management Specialist's role provides expert risk management knowledge and expert risk management facilitation in supporting the organization to meet the business objectives. Providing this role and function allows the group to conform to the Rio Tinto Risk Policy and Standard and add value to business objectives through,
- A?strong risk management culture, familiarity with terminology and application of the risk analysis process,
- Enhanced managerial and financial control through effective risk control and monitoring
- Better management of change and change related activities
- Definition of incremental risks (threats or opportunities) brought about by the organization and external environment.
- Focusing effort towards activities that require management and increasing support for activities achieving the organizational objectives,
- Raise the level of risk awareness, encourage staff to raise issues and assist in the management of risks.
Accountabilities:
- Contribute and influence the risk management strategy and risk management process practice and development within Rio Tinto PDI major projects.
- Develop and contribute towards the business strategies and annual planning by ensuring that risks or opportunities are identified, assessed and managed in accordance with the Rio Tinto Risk Policy and Standard thus enabling the businesses to achieve its business objectives.
- Use Expert Risk management knowledge and Standard International Risk management principles and methodology for the implementation of cost-effective controls and contingency plans with the intent of exceeding goals and objectives, including the minimization of costs, timescales and liabilities for projects across Rio Tinto
- Lead, participate and/or facilitate in the Risk Analysis aspects of projects in development and in implementation to ensure the consistent and proactive Risk approach for all Projects, around the globe
- Influence the preparation and reporting of completed risk analyses to corporate functions, Business Units Project Managers/Leaders or various Customers to enable them to make appropriate decisions and take the necessary actions to maximize opportunities and reduce threats.
- Provide Rio Tinto Risk staff Risk Training with respect to Rio Tinto Risk Policy and Standard, Rio Tinto Risk Approach and Rio Risk tools so that they are well equipped to practice risk management at all levels within the business unit.
- Ensure consistency and a high quality of the risk management processes.
- Contribute to the development of the technical standards and processes (documentation support) with regards to Rio Tinto Risk Approach and Standard to get harmonization of processes within various projects and business units.
- Support Rio Tinto's Health, Safety and Environmental standards, in view of integrating HSE risks into the Risk Analysis and Management Process within Project Processes
- Support Risk Management Communities of Practice (CoP's) and Risk Champions across the business unit- including knowledge sharing and promotion of the discipline, networking of the Rio Tinto Risk Champions staff and all others who require risk advice and/or support, upon request
- Implement effective communication of the risk management process and provide regular updates to risk owners such that proactive actions are taken by all stakeholders to foster an environment for effective management of risk.

?Education & Qualifications: ? College/University Education: Degree level qualification in science or engineering as a minimum Other Qualifications:
- Relevant post-graduate qualification an advantage. Risk qualification highly desirable.
- Competence in risk analyses (5 years as a minimum) in areas to technical and engineering operations and project development
- Extensive experience in risk analysis process and other methodologies pertaining to risk assessment
- Significant experience of consulting activities
- Comprehensive understanding of the smelting process or industry and how the various functions contribute to the achievement of overall business objectives
- Comprehensive understanding of project process
- Licenses/Certifications: Member of professional body, especially in the risk area is highly desirable
Training: In-house training in "Risks" or by outside consultant/firms
