Park University To Hold Continuing Education Course On Facility Security Awareness

Park University's
Office of Continuing Education will host a course on "Basic Facility Security Awareness" on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University's Downtown Kansas City, Mo., Campus Center, 911 Main St., 8th floor (Room 803).

The session will provide facility employees, users and stakeholders with a basic awareness and understanding of security, thereby strengthening the facility's security posture. The workshop will enable facilities to provide its users with a general level of security awareness training and enable the general facility user/employee to become cognizant of an enhanced emphasis on security, and how to identify and respond to potential threats to the security of the facility.

Kenneth Christopher, D.P.A., chair and associate professor of criminal justice, and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Park University. Christopher is a former chief of security for the Port of Miami, and a captain with the Miami-Dade, Fla., Police Department. He has developed vulnerability assessment training programs for the U.S. Maritime Administration and Organization of American States; and security awareness and credentialing training courses for the National Terrorism Prevention Institute. He authored the 2009 book, Port Security Management, providing practical guidance for managing, planning and coordinating port facility security, and is a certified protection professional by ASIS International.
